What:
The waterfall tour is an excellent way to learn backcountry ice climbing, as the top of each section is similar to a ledge, giving you a chance to rest, stay hydrated, and of course take photos of yourself and your friends crushing it amidst a pristine winter landscape.

Where:
The waterfall ice climb is in the backcountry outside of Whitehorse. We start the day by meeting at the Mt Sima Ski Hill rental shop where you will select your gear for the day.

Once we are packed and ready, the drive to the trailhead is approximately one hour.

From the trailhead we have a 40 minute hike on a snowy trail.

Be prepared to carry a heavy pack containing ice axes, crampons, and your food and water for the day.

Once we reach our destination, we rope up and ascend a series of steps to reach the top of the waterfall! Your guide will assist you in tying into the rope and learning some basic ice climbing techniques.

You set the pace, and throughout the day there are plenty of opportunities for snacks, hot drinks, and photos.

When we are satisfied with our waterfall adventure experience, we walk down the trail beside the waterfall (no need to rappel) and reminisce on our day as we return to the vehicle.

The climbing portion takes 3-4 hours. With gearing up, driving, and periodic rests, this is a full day tour.

Who:
No climbing experience is necessary, but it will help to have a moderate fitness level and be comfortable hiking on a snowy trail.

Hotel pick up and drop off.
All gear including boots, crampons, ice axes, and experienced guide.
Lunch, snacks, bottled water.

Wow! What a spectacular day! The hike in to the waterfall was so incredibly beautiful, albeit a bit exhausting, and the actual ice climbing was so fun! It took a bit to get the hang of it but it was simultaneously challenging and exhilarating. Our guide made us feel safe and confident. For anyone looking for a little adventure then this is a fantastic activity!

     Verified Solo Birthday Adventure
Jono was fantastic. I booked an adventure for my 40th birthday. The hike to the falls was hard in the snow but once there the views were amazing. I had difficulty getting my feet to agree with the mission but Jono was patient and kind. His dog Atlas was also very encouraging (though appeared to have absolutely no difficulty with the hike or climb). It was a great way to spend the day and feel accomplished. Thank you!

     Verified Coolest activity in the Yukon
My brother and I had the absolute best time with equinox! We booked the full day water fall ice climbing excursion. Our tour guide was funny, knowledgeable, and brought great energy. My brother lovingly referred to him as rent a granola for the day, because it truly felt like we were hanging out with a friend. As two people with zero ice climbing experience we felt safe and were able to learn and build some solid skills during our tour. The view from the top of the water fall being scaled was absolutely breathtaking. I would recommend being in averagely good physical shape as this activity requires endurance. However the route is designed that allows for breaks while climbing. Plus there were snacks!!!

The highlight of my trip so far. Naomi is a brilliant communicator, I knew exactly what I needed to bring for the tour well in advance. The equipment is high quality with a great safety briefing and tutorial. The climbs themselves were amazing. I felt supported the whole time. Having warm drinks in front of the fire between climbs was a treat!

Well designed and innovative. Kids said it was fun, challenging, and the everyone was really friendly. The hot chocolate and fire was a nice touch. Getting bigger/higher in the future, which will make it even more appealing.
