Frozen Falls & Firelight: A Yukon Winter Wonderland

What: Embark on an unforgettable snowshoeing tour in the heart of the Yukon wilderness. Our ‘Frozen Falls & Firelight’ adventure takes you on a guided expedition to a breathtaking frozen waterfall, a true spectacle of ice falls and winter beauty. Capture stunning winter photography amidst the snow-covered trails, and immerse yourself in a true winter wonderland.

We’ll lead you through scenic landscapes, showcasing Yukon’s beautiful winter scenery and snow-draped forests. Once we arrive at the waterfall, we are warmed by a crackling winter campfire. Enjoy delicious hot drinks and roast campfire marshmallows under the crisp Yukon sky.

Where: Meet us at Mt Sima in the rental shop, where you will meet your friendly guide and select your snowshoes for the day.

Once we are packed and ready, we will drive you in our vehicle to the trailhead, which is approximately 40 minutes outside of Whitehorse.

The hike to the waterfall takes 1-2 hours, depending on how often we want to stop for photos, talk about the local flora and fauna, and tell stories. The trail is moderate difficulty; there is some elevation gain, most of it near the end. The trail winds through the Boreal forest of spruce, pine and fir. Throughout the day there are plenty of opportunities for rests and refreshments, including our special Equinox winter tea that will both warm and energizes you.

Once we reach our destination, we will gather around a cozy campfire and enjoy snacks and hot drinks. And of course, more stories.

Note: we also offer an Ice Climbing tour in the same location. You may be lucky enough to be at the site while other adventurers are climbing the frozen waterfall!

When we are satisfied with our frozen falls & firelight experience, we return the way we came on our beautiful winter trail.

With gearing up, driving, and periodic rests, this is a full day tour.

Who: No snowshoeing experience is necessary, but it will help to have a moderate fitness level and be comfortable hiking on a snowy trail.

					  An incredible adventure!  - If you're a climber and have always wanted to try climbing a frozen waterfall, THIS IS YOUR CHANCE! 

Chris, owner/guide, picked me up in downtown Whitehorse early in... read more the morning with shoes to fit for the full-day of climbing. We then headed down to Carcross to pick up a guide from my previous trip (Boreal Kennels -- check them out as well!!) and off to our first adventuring spot. This was our "warm up spot" but still a challenge. 

We took a break for lunch in Carcross and made our way out to White Mountain for another awesome climb up a waterfall that was between 30-50 feet. 

A few things to note: 

1. Chris runs several camps for kids and you can tell that he is GREAT with kids. 

2. You are safe. You are 100000000% safe in his hands. There have been many times I climbed with a terrible belayer and was terrified for my life. With Chris, not a chance. I slipped countless times and I didn't drop more than an inch (maybe I did but it never, ever felt like it). 

3. He will help you, encourage you, and challenge you. And it's exciting. 

Do this trip. I mean it. You won't regret it -- even if it's -30 degrees, it's worth it.

					  Unique and Fantastic Experience  - We had the pleasure to take part in the Equinox ice wall climb and zip line excursion and it was one of our best experiences while visiting Whitehorse. They wall... read more is right next to the Takhini Hot Springs. Our guide that day was Chris who is the owner and he was amazing. Very helpful and extremely friendly. We felt safe in everything we did.

The ice wall climb can be challenging but Chris sets you up for success. In between climbs he had warm tea for us to enjoy as we relaxed. He was very informative about not only ice wall climbing but with any other questions we had about the area.  After we were done we went down the zip line across the frozen lake. The view over the lake is pretty amazing and when you zip line down it you get a great rush. 

Again this was a great part of our trip and we felt like we did something that we would be able to do few other places.
