Check in with us in the Spring or revisit this page to find out more.
New Friends, Skills and Thrills
Get your ‘climb on’ with our spring rock climbing club! We visit a variety of rock climbing sites around Whitehorse for climbing, belaying, rappelling, leadership development and character building. No experience necessary, parents are welcome to join.
We visit a variety of climbing locations so young climbers have the opportunity to try different climbing sites with varying difficulty levels that allow a healthy challenge for all. There will also be hiking, map reading and geocaching. Participants set personal goals, learn new skills and make new friends.
Climbers receive instruction and are encouraged to learn at their own rate while being part of a team environment.
Participants in Spring Climbing Club will:
-
- learn basic climbing techniques and proper equipment use
- knot tying and belay skills
- increase self awareness and confidence
- set individual goals
- work as a team
- build problem solving and communication skills

Our Goal
Our goal is to expose campers to a variety of activities in a safe and structured environment and to encourage them to try new things and expand their skill base.
Staff to Camper Ratios
Our staff to camper ratio for Climbing Club is 1:5. We will have a small group of 8-10 depending on signups. Our Climbing Club staff work in teams of two or three.
Safety
All of our staff hold current First Aid and CPR certificates, have experience working with children and youth, and have climbing and belaying experience. Group leaders carry a backpack containing a fully stocked first aid kit, camper information, bear spray, whistle, sunscreen and extra clothes.
Equipment
We use proper safety equipment for all of our programs and regularly inspect it. Certified rock climbing gear is provided for all climbers including harnesses, ropes, and helmets. If your climber has their own shoes, they are encouraged to bring them!
